Frequently Asked Questions
Will the course be self-directed or will my child be assigned a teacher?
Students are assigned a teacher who will communicate and work with the student and parents to ensure that the individual needs of the child are being met. Although teachers will instruct students electronically, there will be some self-direction required.
What is expected of the student?
Students will be expected to join in class discussions, attend live and recorded Elluminate sessions, watch Smart Board tutorials and complete daily assignments.
How much time should the student expect to work on the course each day in order to complete this online course?
The amount of time worked each day depends on the student’s efforts, abilities and pace of work. Summer school courses are condensed versions of our regular, semester-long courses that will entail assignments and assessments determined by each teacher.
Will my child’s school district accept a completed course from VCS Ohio?
We advise you to contact your home school district to determine their acceptance of the course you are taking. VCS is an ODE certified, K – 12 charter school, sponsored by the Reynoldsburg City School District.
How do I know which course I need to take?
Your current school counselor or principal should be able to assist you with this.
How can I obtain my transcript for a course I’ve taken and passed at VCS Ohio?
When you complete the registration form, enter your school information on the registration form. VCS will mail your transcript to this address.
Everything is submitted online, correct?
All assignments are completed and submitted electronically to your teacher. Our help desk is available for technical assistance during the school day at 866-501-9473 ext. 5124. Or you can visit their website at help.vcslearn.org.
How long is the summer school course?
The summer school session is a total of 10 weeks. Due to the flexible start structure, students will have a minimum of six weeks, and a maximum of 10 weeks to complete their summer school classes.
What time of day can I access my course work?
The online courses through VCS Ohio are flexible. You may access your course work at any time, day or night. Your teacher’s office hours will be posted in the virtual classroom.
What curriculum is used by VCS Ohio?
VCS Ohio is aligned with Ohio Content Standards and uses new, top-notch textbooks from Holt. These textbooks are FREE to summer school students and are accessed electronically through the learn center.
Do I need to have special equipment in order to take a course through VCS Ohio?
It is recommended that you have a high-speed internet connection. You must also have a home computer or laptop with standard features such as Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Students are not alone at VCS Ohio! The Help Desk is available to answer technical questions.
