What’s it like to be a student at VCS?

I first came to VCS as unwilling participant. I didn’t know what to expect. I thought that I would be very lonely with no one to talk to. I also thought that I would have trouble with my grades because I didn’t think there would be actual teachers there.

Yet when I started I found out that there were teachers there willing to help you. They are very devoted to make sure that you understand what you need to know. For example: I was doing an English research paper and I was having trouble getting started. Well I went to Ms. Conner and she and I for days tried to figure out what would be a good starter.  She never got tired of me and she helped me to understand what was good to use.

School was easier to understand and I got all the help I needed. My grades went from A’s and B’s too all A’s. I was soooooo happy!  Then I started getting very lonely. I was stuck in the house with no one to talk to, and then I found the Student Lounge. It’s this place where kids can talk to other kids that go to school here.  After that VCS got so much better. I had every thing that I needed to feel comfortable. In the end student life at VCS is one of the best things. You know what the absolute best thing though? NO GIRL DRAMA!

Starting in VCS I was rather clumsy and ill-adjusted, as I was not sure what all of the “shiny new buttons” did and was quite sure I would fail spectacularly in no time. This is where VCS compensates for their lack of physical involvement by taking a more thorough approach for individual benefit. It was only a matter of moments when teachers began to send out messages: “If you need help” “I’m sure we can work together” “Welcome, let’s get started”. Every problem I had was solved in a timely and thorough fashion and with my newfound understanding, I set out to the actual work. This is where some of the really beautiful qualities of this school kicks in, as students are given rather direct guidelines for their assignments, but their work pace is decided completely by them. I have taken advantage of this feature myself, as I have been completing the work at double the requested rate so that I may graduate in two years rather than four. With the constant support I receive and the goal in sight, all that remains is for me to apply myself as I would in a normal school which has resulted in success in my current goal—something I could have never hoped to have achieved in a traditional school.
